Rio Verde Fire District
Temporary 2nd Fire Station
The Rio Verde Fire District began staffing a two-person paramedic truck at the Verde River maintenance yard at 178th St. and Rio Verde on Sept 3. The paramedic unit will be housed in an empty doublewide trailer, provided by Shea homes, that was previously used as an HOA office.
The Rio Verde Fire District has a bond referendum on the November 3rd ballot to build a second fire station at 176th St. and Rio Verde. With community populations and emergency calls increasing the need for a second fire station is critical. At this time if there are back to back 911 emergency calls in any of the communities the fire district only has one unit to send so the district counts on mutual aid partners to fill that void. Sometimes the response times can exceed 15 minutes. Fire Chief Jay Ducote says "this is what keeps me up at night, having back to back emergency calls and knowing that we don't have units to run that second call. " Chief Ducote also said: “The new fire station will not only help with redundancy but will also help reduce response times to the growing parts of our community". Along with the fire station, the Rio Verde Fire District is in discussion with the Maricopa County Sheriff's to provide an office in the new fire station to staff a deputy.
